I would imagine you could find several Fender Rumble 100's out there in the used market.
On the used market occasionally one can find a Genz Benz Intro 50,way clean non sterile tone built extremely well with a really good speaker. I think there is an intro 80.
Another vote for the Rumble 40.
One thing that surprised me about it, though, is that it is bigger than I imagined so if space is an issue keep that in mind.

Ampeg Rocket 110, all day, every day. Great sounding combo. Ampeg is owned by Yamaha, who only makes great gear at any price point.
I've compared the Ampeg Rocket 110 with the Fender Rumbles 40 and 100, and the Ampeg wins by a mile in tone, to my ears.

those are pretty different amps, but likely you will be good with any of them for solo practicing. if you can try any amps with your bass before you buy, you'll be safer with the one you like in person, not the one, you get recommended on the net.
I had a Warwick BC80 and a Rumble 100 and briefly played a Rocket Bass 115. out of them only the BC80 has a high-frequency driver, it's a beautiful clean-only amp. the Rumble on the other hand is the least clean of all three, it had a bit of grit that was always there.

Well thanks very much for all the recommendations it's much appreciated, thanks also for the good wishes regarding my health.the guitar was my wife's idea as it was a way of improving my cognitive functions.if any you have or know someone who has a stroke the best thing is to get moving asap I have a dog who doesn't understand illness and demands his walk myself and my doctor are convinced this has sped up my recovery anyway back to bass I'm leaning towards the fender or the ampeg I will only be playing in my house along to my favourite tunes.

The Rumble 40 is fine, the 25 much less so. So if you can find a used Rumble 40, that's fine, but if not, go with the Ampeg.
I think the Rumble 25 is great and enough for home playing. It gets pretty loud and has great bass response. (I even turn down the bass knob!)
Absolutely. My dad spent a year being mad about having his stroke instead of fighting back against it and he never got any better. Good on you (and your wife) for fighting back.

I have the rumble 40. I auditioned the 25 and it didn't make it out of the store. Unless you have a space consideration and need the amp to be physically smaller, the 40 is my recommend. Also, my 40 does a decent job of pinch hitting as an electric guitar amp. I mean, it's not magical, but it doesn't sound terrible. The rumble 4o definitely covers some bases!

Just to say thanks for all the advice and to update you.
I took myself off with the consideration of 2 choices the rumble 25 or the rocket 30 as I will only be using it in my man cave 10x10 I thought either of these would be good enough and tried them both in the store I thought the ampeg sounded better only slightly however I came away with an ashdown studio 8 it just seemed a lot better than both of them.
Perhaps my stroke has affected my hearing, it was never in my shortlist but apparently they've been around a long time
