Starter Chord Shapes

Hey, I've been playing bass for a few years and I feel I'm fairly competent in most areas of playing, except for one: chords. I don't know a single bass chord, could somebody post a few tabs of chord shapes to start off with?

Then you are probably playing chords with out knowing it.

Here is a link which explains chords. If you put the cursor over the notes in the diagrams, it gives the sound of that note.

those are all the same shape tho, just different roots. You just want different shapes?

I use R - 3 - 7 all the time it would look like this (using D - 5th fret A string) as the root for example):

Dmaj7:
G|6
D|4
A|5
E|-

D7:
G|5
D|4
A|5
E|-

Dmin7:
G|5
D|3
A|5
E|-

If my notation makes sense there...

You could use 10th's instead of 3rds which would look like this (using A - 5th fret E string as the root):

Amaj7:
G|6
D|6
A|-
E|5

A7:
G|6
D|5
A|-
E|5

Amin7:
G|5
D|5
A|-
E|5

If you understand where the chord tones are just play around with inversions using octaves to find other shapes.

Thanks guys, these should be a good start on using chords in my playing, I'd start getting used to them.
