Starting A Pedal Board

@newbold - When you say '' save for a decent one'' what do you have in mind? Also, can you send a link to the Digitech thread for me to have allok at please =) Just had a look at the Bad Monkey and it sounds awesome, but does it work well with bass? Does it not drop out on the low end?

50 bucks isn't uncommon for a 105q. One of my favorite pedals for sure (And I have over a dozen on my board!). As far as overdrives go, I think they're really hard to pick out sight-unseen. I heard a lot of great things about both the Bad Monkey and the Fulltone Bassdrive but wasn't really impressed by either. They do a great "old school" overdrive sound but I felt they lacked a powerful low end. Make sure to try the overdrive through your gear before you pull the trigger. Like others have said, octavers are always fun and combining one with a filter will give you mega-funk.

IMO.

Ok, this seems to have gone dead =(

Please help me with the power supply and patch cables.

Also, please post what you consider to the the absolute bare necessities on a starter pedal board ... i.e Tuner, Fuzz, Octave, etc. Don't worry about brands / models, I just want to get to know what you al consider to be the backbone of a good pedalboard

@Nic. - Which OD unit do you use? I was thinking about getting one but was unsure about where to start looking brand wise. And I am defo going to get a power supply to run these off of, but I'm just coming up to some exams at college, so that will ahve to be put on a back burner for the time being. Any power supplies that come recommended tha tare quite cheap?

My bad, I forgot that I posted here and didn't check back.

I used to this cheap chinese power supply from a brand called Biyang. I doubt you can get it there. It's very quiet. I guess you could try the one-spot. Now I'm using a Fuel Tank, but that's definitely not cheap, and I still use the Biyang for convenience quite a lot, since it's just a wall wart.

I'm running my bass through a TS9DX and Silver Dragon. The TS9DX is set to Turbo mode. Between these two I get all the touch-sensitive distortion I want. The dragon give me a warmer, smoother drive, at least on how I set it; the tube screamer is slightly edgier. Usually I play with either one of them on all the time, more often the dragon, because then I can pile on two, then 3 layers of distortion depending on what I need it for.

Tried the Bass Blowtorch, it's way too violent for me. Used an Octron before too, while it sounds pretty cool, it seems to make me lose definition in the mix. I guess it's about finding the right settings, but I can't find them yet.

I don't know how valid this is, but I think a good place to start is seeing if you can grab a 2nd hand pedal modeller (e.g. line6 or something), play around with some presets for other pedals. Then when you find what you want, sell the modeller and recoup losses, then grab the one you want. I haven't tried this before, but I guess this could be an option.

@ newbold - Very fair point, sorry for not thinking of it

I've decided to get a Dunlop DC brick to power my pedals becasue it is within my price range and I've heard many good hings about it.

Also, I've found out that my dad used to make all his own cables, so we are going to make our own patch cables :)

I am considering an EHX Bassballs and maybe an EHX Q-Tron or Enigma Q-Balls. Which would you recomend? Also, would the Q-Tron / Enigma make the Bassballs redundant?

Finally, saving for an EHX Pog 2. I probs won't be able to get this until late this year, but it will be worth the wait :)
