I just put my GK Fusion 210 for sale on Reverb, I bought it new in October. Great amp, but I got a PJB BG-120 and ordered an extension cab for it. Living in an apartment, the GK just takes up more space and I don’t really need it. I bought because I like the way it’s engineered, all tube pre, very intuitive controls and expandable with DI also.
When budget is not an issue I would go with:
- bass => Dingwall NG3 (4/5/6 strings is up to you)
- pedals => a good comp (I love the Darkglass Hyperluminal), a pre/distortion with a good DI (any Darkglass is fine)
- amp/head => Darkglass head (any of your choice 200/500/900 watt Alpha/Omega or Microtubes or the Element if you dig into amp/effect sim)
- cab => any light Markbass will do the job (eg. the Traveler 102 p, 4 ohm if you plan to use only one, 8 ohm if you need more headroom and make the head run 2 cabs at the same time, I would go with one cab 4 ohm since for larger venues you are going to use PA support, but you need 2 8 ohm for sure if you go for a 900 watt head)

If all my gear was gone for some reason, I'd look around the second hand market for a Le Fay six string bass.
I'd love to get the exact same bass I play now because it is hands down the best bass I ever experienced, the one you can pry from my cold, dead fingers - but Le Fay has a waiting period of at least 18 months, so I'd shop used.
Next thing would be to determine if an amp is required in the microcosm I move in. I'd want something that gets me loud enough for the worst case scenario I can picture for that - If I was to play some kind of metal, I'd want something loud enough to compete with a hard hitting drummer and undisciplined guitarist with a halfstack.
The amount of money I'd drop into this setup would scale with how likely I am to actually use it.
I had to dust off my barefaced rig last week because I had it not moved it in a long time. I don't want to be completely ampless, but I'd sink way less money into a rig that sees use twice a year than I'd put into a rig that is played twice a week.

Mono bag
Fender Jazz bass (can solo the neck pickup to get p bass tones in a mix)
Cut a piece of plexiglass or something that will fit in the front pocket of the gig bag put on a tuner, compressor, and something like a sansamp vt DI pedal
All fits in the mono bag and it’s one trip in and out. Put an extra set of strings in the bag and you’re good to gig

I essentially did this about a year and a half ago when I sold off a bunch of stuff I'd had for 20 years and started over. My use case is playing at home and doing some fairly basic recording via an iPad Pro. After some trial and error, my main setup for everyday playing is:
1. Ibanez SR 250 (able to get decent P-Bass tones from the neck pickup and good modern sounds with them balanced)
2. Valeton TAR-20B Amp (20W, built in Chorus Effect, incredible for the price)
3. TC Electronic BC208 2x8 Cab
4. Behringer BDI21 V-Tone Bass Driver DI (super cheap SansAmp clone for the punk/reggae I tend to play and write most often)
5. Focusrite Scarlett Solo (for recording into the iPad using Garageband/Tonex)

Yep, I would go with nice Jazz bass, and a Rumble 200, a Korg tuner, and continue to ROCK the heck out of them.
Thru the years, I've tried all kinds of basses and amps, what I've got makes me happy making noise/music

I'm into the idea of having options, so I'd recommend modular pieces (112s, 210s, etc.) that you can dial-in depending on the need.
I love playing gigs through my Ampeg PF-50T. It's got great tube tone, a solid direct-out, and I'm consistently surprised at the stage volume it's capable of. I don't like hauling it to practices though, so I usually use my backup - an Ampeg Micro VR. That thing is super light and can keep up with a loud band.
As many others have suggested, good cables are a great idea. I love Divine Noise cables, personally.

I have no issues with the basses that I have. Most of them are vaguely precision like or actually precisions. I like all of them except my 72 tele replica which I am still miffed that I can't get it to sound the way I want it to. Maybe it's a lost cause. Probably somebody would love it. If I had to pick a bass outside of mine, maybe a BCR Wave or Shorthorn Mock (koa) with dual reverse P pickups and all of the Neal Moser gadgets
