I bought a Kingbass earlier this year. Tonally it was all there for me. What I did not expect was how BIG it was. You look at the pictures and you expect a small compact body headless bass. It's not, but it is rather large and first position feels like it's a mile away. I wanted that bass to work out so bad! Nope. I may get another someday but it will be something else from their lineup.

+1 on what everybody else said about craftsmanship, fretwork it was the nicest bass I have ever owned. Simply a work of art.

I had a Standard, just like the one in the post above and I don't slap/tap. It sounds fantastic fingerstyle. The electronics package is extremely flexible and goes from eye peeling treble to super low dub and has a sweepable mid with a 3 position micro switch - flat, +6dB, -6dB. It is very easy to get an excellent tone that is thick, muscular and cuts the mix with very little manipulation of the onboard EQ. At least that's the tone I wanted and I got it - I loved it. This is not a one-trick pony in any sense.

I just wish it balanced better. After years of Fender style basses, this one hangs completely differently and like scowboy says, it puts first position wayyyy out there. Hard to get used to. Then again, it was designed for Mark King and the way he plays, it's perfect for him.

Here is my Series 2 with inset neck, only ever seen one other of these ! has a stacked bass and treble !
best Bass, both build quality, and playability, ever !!!!:hyper:

I've owned 10 Status basses and currently still own a Stealth II.
I am not a slap player. They seem to do slap extremely well....
I love the feel and stability of the graphite and the headless design. At any givin gig (outside, basement, in the rain etc.), I'm the only guy in the band not tuning after every other song. The 3-band EQ is Excellent!!! you can find any tone needed with that kind of flexability. The old thought of "sterile" sounding graphite just doesn't apply to Robs basses. I stiil have a Steinberger in my arsenal, so I know the difference. The all graphite Stealth gets most of my playing time due to its versatility and stability. I keep 4 sets of different strings with me (flats, tape wounds, half ground and round-ss)each has its playing application and sound great on this bass, and with the headless, a string change is a 2 min deal. I am currently looking into a Streamline with an MM single pickup, so as to make room for the 3-band EQ.

Got a Classic S1, exotic top wood, wooden set neck, pretty rare find. No picks yet. Great playing bass but I can't come to terms with the sound: it just don't have that big punch at the bottom and I need that in my band. I'm guessing the Status soapbar humbuckers are responsible and the electronics.

Would love a Basic Ken Taylor instead...

S-1 6string, replaced the original graphite neck ^^^ with a wooden one (3 piece maple/ebony fingerboard).

Hello, and thank you for your help. Has anyone epoxy coated their fretless Phenolic fingerboard, as an added layer of protection against the wear from using round wound strings? Interested in hearing any thoughts on the subject. I play with a fairly light touch and my vibrato is side to side, still the wear is beginning to show. A coating would protect the board but would also increase the high end, my Stealth is fully covered in that area. Don't want to change string gauges. Light sanding when the damage starts to affect the notes? Please inform me of the obvious and the not so obvious solutions to the future problem lieing in wait. Thanks again. Everyone please take care and stay safe. It's crazy out there.

Evening (or afternoon) all. I have just recreated the website to hold Status-Graphite leaflets, reviews and flyers. Most of these have been migrated from statii.com and I have added a "search" option (work in progress) as well as a section decimated to the Strata (pre-Status) basses.
