Steam (computer game distribution) problem

There are known issues with Steam. That doesn't mean that EVERYONE has problems with Steam but just looking at Steam forums reveals a number of problems along with some hotfixes released by Valve (that work with varying success). I quite like Steam myself and wish I could get my problem fixed (which only happens occasionally but is pretty annoying when it happens).

One specific issue with the Steam driver that is all over Google is the "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error. This does not seem to be a video card thing as it happens across brands and models.

I'm sorry your Steam is ****ed up, but it is untrue that the majority of Steam accounts gets some kind of trouble (as you stated as your opinion not many posts ago), and there's no point in putting a slur on me to make my post seem ridiculous and by that make your own seem more legit. Can be summed up to; biased smartass is biased (and wrong).

If you've never had problems, or heard of problems with Steam, that's cool. It's just most people I play with have had at least a few incidents in which Steam has screwed up on them.

Rubbish. I've never heard about anyone with Steam problems here. And given that 4 of 5 boys got it where I come from that says a lot.

You completely put aside my opinion (and a few other members') claiming that it is "rubbish", so it's only fair that I am allowed to disagree with yours, yes?

VALVe makes a fantastic game, TF2 is fantastic and HL2 is a great game that spawned lots of fantastic mods (CSS, DoD:S, Gmod), but Steam itself hasn't always been as good as it is today.

Well it's true Steam was horrible, and just plain did not work. But in my mind they sorted out the problems just in time for Half-Life 2. I haven't had any problems since, it's a brilliant system for managing and updating games.

Saying that, I haven't installed it on Vista yet... God help me.

Yeah. I'm usually ranked number 1 or 2 there but since work started back up I haven't been able to play much this week or last.

I have Steam and it pisses me off. I DO NOT play games online. I ONLY play single player scenarios.... WHY do I need to log into the Interwebz and a steam account to play what I bought and installed on my PC???

I remember that really pissed me off when I bought HL2. I installed it, then it forces me to patch it or else I couldn't play. And at the time my internet was SLOW. It took me eight hours to fully patch. The first time I was about 3 hours in, Steam crashed and I had to restart it, and then start the patch from the start again!

There is a "do not update automatically" feature, but that just means it doesn't update as soon as it realises there is a patch out. Instead it just waits until you launch the game. Then still forces you to update.

I play lots of online games now so it's cool having them all patch themselves without me having to go to the developers website, download the patch then manually install it. But man when I was just playing single player stuff on Steam the auto updates annoyed me so much.
