Sterling Ray 34 or Ibanez ATK300

If the ATK300's 3-position tone switch is the big selling point, look at the SBMM SB14 (EBMM Sterling equivalent). It's got ceramic magnets as well as the series-single coil-parallel switch, and a smaller neck profile and body.

My Ray34 gives my US Ray a run for it's money. It might be cheaper than a real Ray, but it's by no means a cheap bass.

I tried a ton of these and they are very very good.

I picked one over a EBMM one no because it was cheaper but I liked it tone and playability just a touch more.

Id say the ATK. I got the RSP and its just amazing. It can spit out any sound you want, from a Ray to a Fender P to a Jazz. But its HEEEEAVY. And the neck is fat as hell (not a bad thing?). I've played the Ray and the ATK side by side and to my preferences id have to say the Ibanez. The only real problems ive had are cosmetic, knobs falling off, etc. But thats like nothing to fix. Both very fine instruments either way

I'mm usually an Ibby fanboi, but I prefer the tone of the stingray over the ATK.

well I don't own either, but I've tried an ATK and wasn't impressed (but that's just me). It certainly doesn't sound like a stingray, that's for sure...so if you're looking for the stingray sound, get the ray.
