Hey dudes, and girls I'm looking at the steve bailey signature, I need opinions, feedback, etc over this bass. How's the tone? the low B? The high C? Etc etc Thanks a lot
Only seen pictures and vids so far, so no review here. Would be interesting to find one of each to play out. Bet it sounds like a Fender Jazz with 6 strings though. I think a set of Q tuner pickups would open these up just fine.
I heard Steve Bailey play it for a week. He's loving it, stock. And I can say that it sounds freakin' great, but I have a feeling that any decent bass that he played would sound freakin' great...
I don't think so. Steve indicated that a lot of changes went into it. I'm not enough of a Fender guy to be able to highlight them. There is a Youtube vid of Steve playing it and talking about it, though, FWIW
Its funny, theres all these videos like the Namm09 etc, but all they do is talk bout them. Never do they actually play it.......
I've actually tried one. It's an incredible bass guitar, something I would definatley buy... if I was a 6-string guy. GREAT tone.
I love the look of his new bass. Not too sure on the sound. Started off watching the first video posted in the thread.... 30mins later found myself still watching Steve Bailey videos! Man that guy is good!!! -ScottM
if anyone is interested in trying one..they have a few over in rudy's music..in times square in NYC.. i don't know if that helps anyone..
Well that's it. I've got a fretless in black one en route...and this is the post that did it. I knew there was one in Rudy's because I had tried it last weekend, but once I read this I went back and tried it again. The one in the store needs a setup, but I can tell you it is a very, very solid bass. I can't wait to get the fretless...I'll post a full review when it arrives
Haha - I know, so easily influenced. The fiancée gets jealous that TB gets more attention than she does sometimes, and now I've got waaay too many basses. In all seriousness I had been considering this beast since it came out, but really wanted to try it out first. I really think Fender hit a home run with this one...
OP, are you talking about his Aria or his new Fender? If the Aria, I have the fretted version of it w/ the SD Basslines. Heavy bass, fat tone. I prefer a much more aggressive EMG-esque tone, so the SDs don't really cut it for me and the 2-band is limited, but it's a nice bass overall. I haven't had the luxury of trying out his new Fender.
I got a fretless one. it's a pretty good bass. the low B sounds very good to me, the high C sounds good too, but you have to press it down very firmly against the fingerboard (but I guess that's because it's a fretless) I wrote a review: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Electric+Bass/product/Fender/Steve+Bailey+Fretless/10/1
hmmm...you shouldn't have to press too down so much (whether fretted or fretless) unless you want to. As a matter of fact, you can usually get the action REALLY low on a fretless without a problem. You may have to have a repair shop file down the bridge's string slots a bit. You could also try lighter gauge (or taper core) strings, which would allow them to sit lower to the fingerboard. Can the strings be strung through the bridge as well as through the body on this bass?
yeah, the strings can also go through the bridge. yeah, I'd like to have the action lower, and the fingerboard seems level enough to allow it, but the bridge saddles cannot go lower. I guess I could have the saddles filed down, but I'm considering raising the neck (by putting an extra wood plate in the neck pocket) instead, which is reversible.
As much as I don't care for anything over a 5 string, I dig the look of the fretted version. Well, everything except the Strat-style jack plate. ***?!?!
