Double Bass Steve Swallow, Double Bassist

Love those duo recordings SW did with Sheila Jordan. Loved the trios with Chick Corea, deep sound. Love the sound of his hollowbody electric with Burton/Grappelli. Very organic sound.. lots of wood tone in his electric bass there. Very negotiable overtones, like the acoustic bass. Less enamored of his sound when he started playing hot rod custom instruments. The Parker bass sounds horrible. For me, he traded in his acoustic sound when he left the of the shelf hollow body bass. What a great musician though, and that's what really counts.

I love this clip! Love Steve's acoustic bass playing. He always gave a story about how he discovered the electric bass and was inspired to quit playing acoustic.. at the Fillmore when he was playing with Gary Burton and they opened for Cream. Watching him solo here it sure looks like he was nursing a serious shoulder injury. It's tough on the body, our chosen instrument.

Looks like he was nursing a pretty severe right shoulder or neck injury to me. Contracted muscles, repetitive movement related injury? Just my take
Ok, thanks for answering
Doesn't really matter now, because Steve abandoned the upright bass long ago.
Of course but gaining some insight(s) from observing his posture then could definitely be helpful to someone now, that's the reason i asked
