stiff rounds?

I love the golds.. reason they are stiff is the Hex Core they use. And I have sets that are over a year old that still ring like the first month I installed them. In fact my #1 bass a custom USA NS4 Spector was originally set up with them in the Woodstock shop. And that bass was done well over a year ago.

No, they just use stiffer wire. All Slinkys are hex core, and they're "slinky"

It's been many years since I've used them, but as I recall, GHS Progressives were one of the stiffer roundwounds I've used.

EDIT: As I said, it's been many years. Doesn't look like they make the Progressives anymore. Perhaps they've been replaced by (or renamed as) Contact Core Steels. I seem to remember the Progressives were themselves a contact core string. (Can't seem to locate the brain cells that remember exactly. ;))

Also have you tried EB Slinky Flats? (Previously "Cobalt Flats") It's like "almost rounds" but... good for popping but maybe a bit too bottom-heavy for slap on many basses... just a thought as it's an interesting crossover string.

I recently acquired a used j-bass and it has some sloppy-ish rounds. I'm a flats guy and I use d'addario chromes on my other basses (they are nice and stiff like I love) but I'd rather keep rounds on this one, to practice slapping more.
I had settled with DR Sunbeams in the past but am open to other suggestions of rounds that feel nice and tight/stiff like my chromes, even with a nice and low action (if they "work well" for slap that's a bonus).
Any really obvious options I should know about?
