Still own your first bass?

My first bass was a 1984 Washburn Bantam. It looked very much like a Steinberger headless bass, with a narrow, straight-edged body. 24-fret neck. All basses I've played since weigh much more. Its small, lightweight body provided freedom from aching neck, shoulders, and back caused by any other bass. I had no idea what a blessing that was til years after I'd let it go.

It's a Red Fernandes cost about $150US. I gave it to my bass student who now doesn't play bass anymore ...

It is a rather thin neck one. It is abit too low action as well. I hope to play abit of that bass, not sure how I like it for now.

no. My first was a Cimar Jazz copy bought in 1979.

This year I bought a Fender MIA P bass, an ABG and a MarkBass amp from the son of the guy that sold me my first bass. I like the continuity hehe

My first bass was a lemon - Fender Power Jazz Bass Special. I could not get rid of it quickly enough...

I think I am on basses 17, 18, 19 and 20 now - or somewhere around there. GAS is a terrible thing to waste!

In order of acquisition:
17- Lakland 55-4, my wife bought this for me as a surprise!
18 - Warmoth Deluxe 5 fretless - I'm getting better at fretless
19 - Regenerate M5 - Simply an amazing bass, Rod makes great basses. You know that thing about "jazz bass on steroids?" This is a jazz bass on steroids on steroids when you want it to be! Also, REALLY amazing playing whole notes up by the neck, the sound just blossoms and is really rich. I am really impressed with how versatile this bass is.
20 - Ken Lawrence Associate 5 - just an all around great bass.

I still own my first bass, a early 2000's Samick P bass. It's in a very sorry state, dissembled in my shed. I will restore it one day.

The bass I learned to play on was a 1985 Fender Jazz special. I know exactly where it is, and plan to purchase it from the school one day.

I still own my first good bass,my Kramer 650B that I got used in the late 70's,before that I had a Crestwood beatle bass copy that was unplayable I just didn't realize it and a Precision fretless that still makes me wonder what the big deal is w/Fenders.

I still have my (approximately) '87 Fender P. It's one of the MIJ E-series, and I've never found another precision that just nails it like this one. Can't imagine ever letting her go, and on the hunt for a MIJ P/J of the same vintage.

No, I sold my first two (an Aria Diamond and a Charvel 2B) shortly before moving and getting deep into my 15 year bass hiatus. I've replaced that 2B with a 4B now, which I've had for maybe four months. It's my main bass again, along with a couple of Thunderbirds and a Sterling SUB SB4. There are a couple others waiting to be worked on, too, that I don't count because they're not working at the moment.

Yet another Hofner copy; Kingston, bought new in 1976 from the Sears or Alden catalog and restrung left-handed. Still have it, but only played on very rare occasions.

Probably not the typical first bass, but it's been with me for 20+ years, and has been played extensively for much of it! I will never get rid of it. '78 RD Artist in Ebony.

I see a lot of posts involving snapped headstocks... If one of you guys decides on throwing away a bass sometime, please make sure you give it to somebody who can fix it instead of just throwing it out. Sad to see instruments in the ditch. I'll find an abandoned bass to fix up someday.

I still own all the basses that I ever bought ! But I only bought two.

I started playing on a borrowed Ibanez Blazer and after a year or so bought my Fender P, and that was my only bass for ten years.

After five years or so I sprayed the pickguard black and to me it looked like a new bass.

Currently strung with Chromes and played through my new SVT VR my baby sounds better than ever.

I wish. But I have the habit of selling old gear as soon as I upgrade. I often later regret it, not because I need it necessarily, but something like my old bass I started on is definitely something I wish I held onto merely for the memories!
