i did the following: ripped the frets out, covered the neck with putty, took off the finish with a heat gun, covered the inside of the cavity with aluminium foil, wired the pickup backwards, covered it in tung oil, left it in a garage for six months and then covered it with yard waste. admittedly not in that order.

so, no.

also i'm not allowed to diy it anymore.

(... i'm actually serious. ah, youth!)

I kept my first instrument, 1984 squire bullet B-34, last year I had a luthier rebuild for me, so I really use it - plays great, practice hours everyday with it, the slab body tends to cut my right arms circulation off after a while, other than that, I'm really happy I still have it.

Well, I just got it three weeks ago, so yes.

And it's a keeper. I'll probably end up changing the electronics and a few frets need to be filed if I want to get the action any lower (kinda like it where it is though), but it's a rock-solid, toneful bass. People have actually commented on the toanz. It's weird, 'cause it's a 34" fiver, but the the B is friggin' loud and scary and full of guts.

But yeah, it's a $190 5-string with neck-thru, two SR-style HBs and active preamp w/bass+treble. Thank God they don't make 'em like they used to! :p

My first didn't last long at all. An Ibanez AEB10 acoustic-electric. But I'm not sure if it counts, as I barely even played it before selling it. My second was a Fender MIM jazz fretless, and I've got that guy a good 9 years later, though it got next to no use for 5+ of those years. I had no idea what I was doing until not too long ago, and I'm still not sure. IMO, that's my first bass in principle.

1st bass was a Japanese P Bass copy from a pawn shop in 1964. Still have it but I replaced tuners, bridge, pickup, electronics, everything but the neck and body (refinished, of course) by the time I bought my first real bass, a brand new '68 Blond Telecaster. Still have both, still play both with joy and no amount of money can buy either. Take it from an old guy, never sell an instrument that means speaks to you.

No. I recently donated it to a church yard sale. It was a '98 Epiphone Accu-bass Jr. Just a run-of-the-mill p bass clone and I figured I would use it to learn how to refinish, and modify but it quickly became just a money pit. For all I put in it I could have bought a MIA Fender.

My first bass was an old Howard single pickup bass. i sold it back in the early 70s. Don't miss it. I then had a Fender Jazz with a bassman twin 15 amp. Sold them in 1984. Now that I am playing again, I realize I should have kept them. Live and learn I guess. :):cool::bassist:
