Double Bass Sting Longevity

I currently use sprio mediums on my bass and I like the sound of them but they are a little bright for me. I was thinking about trying Evahs or Animas but I am worried about how long the strings last being that they don't have steel cores. Also I was wondering how either of those compare to the projection of spiros.
I'm also starting to get more into arco and although I can make sprios sound decent the D and G are just to bright for me. Thats why Evahs and Animas are my top choices, they seem to be the most used hybrid string.

Stick with the Spiros for another year or two. Trust me.

Agree-the Spiros are nasty for about 2 months, but become wonderfully playable after 6.

If you have only one bass and have to play Mozart that night, I don't think I would put them on in the afternoon.

BTW, I love Evahs, but they are all over the place (just like gut! WOW!) where as Spiros are dead-nuts in tune, almost amusingly so.

Especially the light (can't spell wxxxxs) gauge.

Try the Mittel for at least 6 months with a lot of bowing. If you still think they are too bright get Spiro Weich for some months. At least the S42 4/4 Weich are easy to bow, less tension and darker than the Mittel. The 3/4 Weich are a bit stiff on my EUB, but may be different on an acoustic bass.
