I am thinking about getting a Stingray and was wondering if there are any tonal differences between the 2EQ and the 3EQ with everything set flat? I like the sound of the bass, but don't use the active EQ, so I thought it might be nice to simply things with only the 2EQ. However, I have only played models that have the 3EQ.

Also, does anyone know what the frequency centers for the bass, mid, and treble controls are?

There is a sound difference. I like the old 2eq's, they have a darker-growlier sound. Over the years I have always found 3eq to have a much brighter-'clickety' sound with very high mids compared to the 2eq...that's one reason I like my old MM basses.
I know you can still get a 2eq on some newer ones, but are a little rare to come by unless you special order it, and the nice thing is they still sound like the old MM's.

That's the unfortunate reason I (still) haven't fallen in love with my buttercream SR5...no matter what, it does not get that sound I love from my old Ray and Sabre.

The two band, in its original form at least, was boost and cut on the treble and "sort-of" boost and cut on the bass. John East (maker of the J-retro) has been building a 2 band stingray preamp based on the original...

"A: Our 3 band basses use a standard baxandall circuit centered appx. 500hz. Frequency slope is 6 db per octave. With bass control in max position, max output will occur at 40hz and drop at 6db per octave above 40hz. Maximum treble response drops at 6 db per octave at frequencies below appx.12 khz. Mid range is centered appx.500 hz. Control settings are interactive, therefore 6 db per octave slope only occurs when one control is in maximum position and the two remaining controls are set to minimum."
