Hi, I have an SR5 that I bought used a few years ago and I noticed that the switch has never really worked as it is supposed to. The only setting that I feel is working properly (based on watching other people demo the bass on youtube) is the middle setting.

I have attached a sound clip so you can hear how each of the 3 switch settings sound. The eq is all set to flat and it is just the bass through a DI into my interface. I started with the switch in the position where the switch is pointed towards the neck, then did the middle setting and finished with the switch towards the bridge.

I recently opened up the bass to see if any wires were loose at the switch but didn't see anything. Does anyone have any experience with this or have any ideas of what to look for? I know for sure that the last setting that I tried is not working right as that is supposed to be the default stingray sound I think and it is very muffled sounding.

I’m not hearing much tone change in the different clips, but from my past experience with the 3-way switches, a bad switch will have positions that make no sound or crackle really badly. However, there’s something not right, that’s for sure.

I’m thinking it’s possible that something is mis-wired inside. If you are technically inclined, get a wiring diagram and examine the wiring for something wrong.

Yeah, I emailed EBMM about getting the wiring diagram so I'm just waiting to hear from them about that. I don't think it's the switch that is broken, just that the wiring seems off.

I did receive the schematic from MM last night so I opened it up again and couldn't see anything with the wires that didn't look right. Everything is in the position it is supposed to be in. Maybe a capacitor or something isn't working properly. I'll probably have to take it to a tech to have a look.
