Stingray Advise.

Hello I need advise on which Stingray Model I should get. I am looking at the 2 band EQ stingray's cuz i heard th4ey have a fatter mellower more natural tone with not as much sizzle in the treble frequncies. However I was wondering if maybe I should get the HH model. Are the HH models nice and warm and fat sounding. How would they compare to the 2 band EQ single pickup models. All inof and opinions welcome.

I have a new 3-band H Stingray that I find very sonically versatile; to me, it has the right look and feel, though I have heard great things about the HHs. The midrange allows me to dial down some of the "sizzle" without losing definition and I personally wouldn't want to be without it. I use it for everything from thumping Motown to smooth jazz.

2 band rulez in my book. Had one for a long time and everytime I picked up a 3 band, I had to put it down. Fatter, smoother, yes, for sure.

Nothing wrong with the 3 band. Just not my thing.... Another good alternative that will save you some bucks and get you into the same tonal range is an Ibanez ATK. Sounds similar to a Ray 2-band, even more so than a Ray 3 band (believe it or not).

I have the exact ATK700 natural that you modded recently; I'd traded it to Buffalo Bob and got it back recently. Great instrument, and it does compare very, very favoroably with the Ray. BTW, did you ever put that chrome thumbrest on? I was contemplating the same mod.

I'll post pics later to my thread (not this one) ;) .

beside telling you to play them both the answer depends on what originally attracted you to the Stingray.

if you're looking for Sade, Supertamp, Chic, AC/DC, Brothers Johnson, RATM's 1st album bass tone go for a 2 band.

if however your idea of the typical Stingray tone originates from the works of Flea and other 90s and contemporary bassists go for the 3 band (H/HH/HS, they all will sound the same when the H is singled out in parallel).

???????
when did Music Man Come out with a 3-band originally?

The 3 band Stingray was introduced in 1987.
this one is a 1987. well, almost 24 years..:D
