Hello everyone.
This is my first time here and I am looking for a bit of advice. I am a very casual bass player (1-3 hours a day), learned most songs by ear of with tabs, I like to play songs from Sting, Rush, and I wish I had the talent to play dream theater but that's asking for a lot
I used to own a US made G&L L-2000 bass which I had to sell because of money problems. I really liked it, the shape, the sound, the lack of pick guard, everything.
When I had a few dollars available, I bought a used Geddy Lee Jazz bass which I kept for a few months but never really liked it. First is that I like things to be new when it comes to something personal like a bass, and although it sounded great, the neck is really small and I missed having an active bass.
I was offered a trade for the Geddy lee, a 2008 US made Stingray and I really like it. It feels similar to the G&L, sounds amazing, and the neck is great for me. I figured I'll trade and even if I don't like it, I can sell it.
Now that I have the Stingray, I'm really asking myself if I would make a mistake to sell it to buy the G&L Tribute GTS. I know the tributes are great and good enough for the use that I make, but I wonder how a tribute G&L will compare to the Stingray. I have a feeling that if I sell the MusicMan to get the tribute exactly how I like it, I might like the no pickguard look but what if there is a big difference in sound and feel from the fact that it's a tribute.
Any thoughts on how a used Stingray will compare to a new G&L GTS Tribute?
Thank you
