Stingray fix

You can see from this pic that my stingray’s got a major problem

But, as you can see from the next, I just got it fixed!!

View attachment 3358083In all seriousness I could never make the stingray electronics work for me, but I love the playability, neck and look of this beast. Mike Lull just finished this—Seymour Duncan pj’s, bartolini preamp. Sounds spectacular.
You know the P pickup is not in the P pickup position...and probably why your B not so great

True P pickup placement will slightly overlap the original Bridge pickup location

Did Lull have to route both pickups or just the "P"?
Not sure to be honest. I

honestly I’m not sure. I’m guessing just some on the P. He did tell me he had to add some wood fill to the routing where the dummy/hum-cancelling coil for the neck pickup was originally. MMSR are strange beasts!

Yep I know it’s well forward of standard. Pretty sure you’d have to design a new pick guard and do a bunch more routing and maybe filling to make a true pj pickup placement. When I dropped my bass off, he had one of his p5’s in the shop with the same Seymour Duncan split coil in a standard position and it sounded more focused than my p pu. But both pickups at once on this thing is pretty amazing and very focused.

It just seems to wash out in a particular mix I play in. Like the guitars start and the bass disappears. Then I eq around it, which doesn’t work or sounds like crap. But a pbass type instruments, even a short scale one, have no such problem. I know I’m not alone with this issue. It is bold and prominent in a country-ish thing I do, but not really needed in that context.

Gaaaahh! To an admitted EBMM fanboy like me it’s sort of shocking. But if you love it and it plays the way you like that’s all that really matters. The work looks like it’s very well done.
