Stingray nut width variations

i own a 1996 stingray that has a flat, thinner neck and fingerboard and a 1.75" nut. I have a 2006 USA Sub bass witha baseball bat thick neck, rouder radius and a 1.75" nut. Just took in on trade a more recent Stingray (waiting on date from EBMM forum) that has a neck wider than the 1996, and thinner than the 2006, but with a 1.65" nut. Why all ther variations? What year did MM switch nut size on Stingrays?

How can your more recent SR have a 'wider' neck than the 1996 when its nut is 1.65" and the other one is 1.75"?

The EBMM website lists the SR4 nut width as 1 5/8", but mine (dating from 1987 to 2017) are more in the region of 4.26 cm to 4.30 cm which is closer to 1 11/16".

Neck radius (or rather fingerboard radius) is 11" on the standard SR4s and 7.5" on the Classics. Neck profiles can vary a little in my experience.

To address the DOM from Music Man (who are great at getting back promptly with DOMs), I've had a lot of luck at musicmanbass.org with dating a lot of older MM basses.

Sorry.. should have read thicker that the 96, but thinner than the 2006 USA SUB

On EBMM's there is typically a sticker or date scribbled on the control plate of when the elecrronics got assemled. At least you'll know the year.

Ive owned almost 30 MM's and have never had an SR4 with a 1.75 nut width.
The rear thickness and shape however are totally different because they're hand sanded and shaped by different builders.
