Hey guys, I hope you all are having a good day.
A few weeks ago, I picked up an "Arbor" Stingray knock-off at a local music store for the purpose of a fixer-upper project. When I bought it, the action, intonation, neck, bridge, etc. were all horrid. I have gotten it into an excellent playable condition and am now looking to upgrade the stock pickup to something more desirable.
I like this bass because it is passive and, based on my understanding, most Stingray style basses are active. Therefore, I would like to find a quality pickup to put in it an am seeking your advice. This is primarily because most of the Stringray style pickups for sale on the web have 0 reviews.
Sound wise, I am pretty open. I am not necessarily going for that "classic Stingray" tone, although that would be fine; I just want something warm, punchy, and quality. I play mostly alternative rock, and my tone usually consists of slightly boosted mids and a touch of tube overdrive.
I have been eyeing the Bartolini MMC pickup on Musicians Friend for $99.99. Any other suggestions or insight would be appreciated.
Thanks!
