Itd be more fair to compare a pbass to a stingray, even though a bongo and stingray are the same brand. I feel like you dont see this debate too much becuase different types of people are attracted to each bass specifically.

Guys who are into stingrays are more into the vintage vibe whereas bongos lend better to a more modern hi fi crowd IMHO.

If it were me I have a stingray so I'd definatly go with one. I cant stand the look of bongos or the feel of the neck.

Don't tell my rockabilly band about your theory - they didn't want to admit it at first (because of the LOOK), but now they get nervous if I play anything but a Bongo.

Stingrays are great basses. Classic look, choice of pickup configurations, killer growl, able to leap tall P-basses in a single bound - a good Stingray fits in any style of music.

Bongos are great basses. Interesting styling, choice of pickup configurations, killer growl, able to leap tall Jazz basses in a single bound - a good Bongo fits in any style of music.

This is why I have both. I've been heavily favoring my most fabulous 20th SR5 lately, but a certain green SR4 has been getting a lot of action, too.

I think it's hard to make a bad decision between these two basses, obviously.

You did see the line where I said "either one will work for almost anything", right? I think the Bongo is better for rock/metal, having owned one and playing that style. That doesn't mean a 'Ray can't do it, and do it rather well, just that the Bongo is a little better at it IMO.

I have withheld my vote as well until we get more info from the OP, as both are equal from a quality prespective.

they are both great basses and not one is better for anything than the other. play them and decide for youself. having owned a ray for 20 years i favour the ray, but the only thing that i can think of where it is really "better" than the bongo is the fact that he neck is not painted, i just don't like the look and feel of it. when i played a bongo i quickly forgot about that though.
both equally great and weird basses.
