Stingray Vs. Bongo

Both are great. I own SR4 and played several times a Bongo.
I prefer the Stingray, but would love to have a Bongo too. Close call.

i like how the stingray looks (because it has that classic style look to it) but i cant stand the way the neck feels. on every SR ive ever played i could never get into it.
I pick up a bongo for the first time and was immediatly blown away by the playability and tone for both 4 and 5 string and lined fretless. i cant decide if i like how they look. but ill tell ya, on basscentral they have bongos in electric blue with all rosewood necks for around 1900 and if they were the same neck profile as the bongo is normally, i would say thats (.)(.)'s.

If I were blind, it wouldn't matter. I like the tone from both, but maaaybe I'm leaning towards the Stingray tone. But the main issue with the Bongo is looks. They are TERRIBLE imo. Sort of like the lovechild of two inbred hillbillies.

I like the 'Ray, myself. The Bongo's a good bass, but it's a bit modern and artificial sounding for me

I'd go with a vintage Stingray. I've had 5 EB's and sold them all because they had weak sounding G strings.

There isn't a sound that a Bongo can't do and do well. The neck just feels right, and the contours of the body make it the most comfortable bass ever. Play one, you will see what I mean.
It can't do an organic, woody, passive sound too well. Neither can the Stingray, but I still vote Stingray; it's a classic!

Hmm... I've played active basses from different brands and I must say that one of the things that I love the most from the Bongo is the fact that I can feel the wood in the tone in spite of being a hi-fi sounding bass. Some active Yamahas and Ibanez that are really artificial-sounding to me compared with the Bongo come to mind.
The BONGO just rules. Period.
You shouldn't judge it until you play it. That first experience of laying hands on it and hitting the first note is unforgettable.

My friend has an orange Bongo five string. It is so awesome. And through his Ampeg SVT plugged into both an 8X10 and a 2X15, it sounds crazy.
