The bridge pup of a 2 pup Bongo doesn't quite do it for me like a Stingray, sounds a little thin to my ear (it's closer to the bridge than on a Ray). On the other hand, the flexibility of HH and HS Bongo models is a definite advantage over similarly outfitted Stingrays. Bongos sound great AND I love my 20th Anniversary SR5!

Tough choice but a win/win proposition IMO.
In fact, I'm thinking hard about adding a Bongo to my arsenal, just not sure which config!

+1...I've always enjoyed the readily identifiable sound of a 'Ray (Bernard Edwards, Tony Levin) but the Bongo has far more tonal coloration available to it.
Both are enjoyable to play, and consistent in build quality but if one is seeking a 'Ray tone it's a lot less trouble to just buy one instead of trying to draw those specific characteristics out of a Bongo.

Yes! I have the HH model and while I really like it, I find the same thing. What do you all think about modifying the bass to move the pickups closer together? Bridge pickup to the Stingray position, and neck pickup maybe to the Precision position? Is it worth it?

If you tried to move the pickups as you described they'd be overlapping.
I think you'd be much better trading it for a single H or a Stingray.

I love my Bongo, but the one problem I have is when I am playing a song were I go back and forth from finger to slap and pop style, getting to the sweet spot to pop with, but I can do it I just have to pay attention,

This is a great thread. I actually read all the way through it.... I've had the same question that started this thread, but then I steered myself towards the Big Al (five string). Then I looked at the 25th anniversary five string. I really like the 25th anniversary, and I understand MM is coming out with a new model this summer that has the same config all the way around as the 25th but with color options.

This could be the new "ultimate bass". At least until next summer...

I own both and i gotta say bongo. Superior tonal options (the HH model). All videos on youtube and such all got great stingray sounds but for some weird reason i cant get a good tone out of my stingray. It sounds kinda dead :/
