Stone/Doom Bassists Thread Part 39: Flip Flops & Zubaz!

I want my stepdads Ripper. 1st bass I ever played.

I owned a Ripper at a time in my life when I wasn’t supposed to be buying gear. I had it in my basement and if I was ever asked about it I planned to tell the wife that I was fixing it for a friend.

QOTSA comes on the Henry Rollins show and she tells me to check out the bass the dude is playing and tells me I should get one. It was ****ing Ripper!!! Then she reminded me it was just a pipe dream and we had more important things we needed to buy.

I sold it a week later out of guilt and shame.

It was an awesome bass!

This is the bass I wanted to buy before my wife bought me my G&L:

You doin this with anyone in particular? I heard alot about these last summer and was bummed I missed out on em. Would love to get down next summer. Is it at 7Springs again?

Txt me about it, like I said I wanna get in too if I'm not intruding on some brown muddy love fantasy of yours :ninja:

PS. I need a Supervoid shirt to wear on stage when we open for you guys

LOL I literally texted you 2 minutes after you posted this but I hadn't seen the post. Trying to get Steve into it to. Yeah, it's a bunch of my Ohio friends from Man Weekend.

So I will be ordering or picking up one of these tomorrow... Invalid Link Removed

I have 2 active basses and my 1 passive, I'm only getting this to lower the attenuation on my stingray so it sounds better through my fuzz. I tested the theory last night with my Zoom B3 (which is becoming more and more of a doorstop lately) and hit the pad switch with the B3 first and a BBM after. It was a pretty big improvement. For $17, if it does the job it'll just have a permanent spot in front and lowering attenuation will be it's only job, lol. Any thought on this let me know, I'm going to try it though.

My biggest concern... the para out will get benefit from the attenuation switch too, right?

Jesus, I take a half day from work and miss like 20 pages. Too lazy to quote so here goes:

I have a BC Rich Warlock from the late 80s/early 90s. Pointy headstock model. My first 'good' bass. I've had since I was 16 and it's still my backup. Neck dive is a PITA, but it actually sounds decent and I dig the thin, wide shredder neck. Currently tuned to B w/ some monster strings on it.

Congrats, Nick! I got married about a year and a half ago and I'm loving it! Also, all of your stuff looks/sounds awesome and I want it all. I'll be in touch in 6-8 months when we've got some more cash coming in.

Farflung is great, A Wound... is probably their best, but it's worth tracking down the old stuff. It's all super out of print, but used to be pretty easy to find on blog sites.

Laz mentioned Solace a while back, they're probably one of my favorite bands in the genre. Everyone should be listening to them right now. JUST DO IT.

Corey, the single coil clips sound great. Kind of wish I still had the Hamer Strat now. It was green.

...and in non-stoner news, I just found out that Lucero is coming back to town in April. They're a great alt-country/rock band so if any of you guys are interested in that kind of stuff check 'em out. Lots of sad sack songs about booze and women. Great musicians. Last time I saw them their guitar player had a Black Tusk shirt on, and stopped me to compliment my Black Cobra shirt.

Why thank you sir!

fvking love it! :bassist:
I need more green in my life.

thanks bud! Yes you do! In more ways than one!

Oh, you tease. Very nice. I have been on the fence about selling/trading my pbass. Thinking of making it my project bass and throw some flats on it. The wife would never understand but it'd be cool.

This is my project bass, I traded a reverb pedal for it haha

It had an EMG pickup in it, and some ****** dillion black bridge when i got it. The EMG didn't like my pedals and had this honky clean tone i didnt like, and the bridge didnt have enough adjustment to intonate it for the BEAD tuning it came in. So i swapped to some import squier p-bass pickup I had lying around along with some 500k pots and got a black squier 5 bolt bridge and whamo she's a slayer now. Tone rolled all the way off into the big spider is heavenly for blending in witht he guitarist and being heavy as a kicking a rhinoceros in the nuts while an atomic bomb goes off, thenw hen i need a volume boost and to cut through i just hit the tone switch. For a total of around 150$ I couldnt be happier.
