stoner/doom bassist thread part 2: suspicious smoke

I know wizard does, but the doom bands with singers, no cookie monster vocalswant to write a doom kinda tune and want some inspiration for vocal placement / melody

Ive gotta give a nod to some localish but still heavyweight DOOM for you to check out..Earthride, Nitroseed, Hovel, Lo-pan, Rebreather....
I was checking these bands out on youtube and from the ones I found, all the bass players use Rics, lol.

Nice. That actually sounds a lot like the background of my band. We're not "stoner" rock per se, but I don't think we really have one specific subgenre we really are 100% in synch with, and stoner (unlike doom) can really be a kinda big catch all genre of anyone with a little bit of heavy, vintage, and groove oriented feel.
Here's a completely off the cuff jam that we caught on tape, to kinda give a feel for what we can do, but certainly aren't limited to...

I didn't know COC was touring again. Absolutely love Pepper Keenan. Went to see Down a year or so ago, just to see him play guitar (and to see the Melvins open, of course).
Nice. I've got tickets to see Torche and Big Business in a week and a half. Turns out, the guy who recorded our last studio work is opening for them. Been wanting to see Torche forever. One of my favorite bands of the last five years.

Hovel uses a Thunderbird.. but yeah, theres alot of Ricitude.

Hovel was hard to find on yt ill try tomorrow. And COC is sans pepper and its the hardcore era tunes. Will still be a cool show.

Okay. I really prefer the keenan era stuff but they definitely have a large enough catalog to pull off a tour playing just their early work.ampegfuzz said:
Damn a carvin b1500 popped up locally for $200 but I'm going out of town and it will likely be gone on my return. Anyone ever try a hartke lh1000 for stoner tone? I remember them being relatively warm. Might be a decent cheap backup amp.

I love them but they're not very mid-heavy. They have a classic Fender scooped sound which I love.

My girlfriend (also a bassist) plays through an LH500. It's decent. Fairly generic tone, but like anything else if you through a Sansamp or some other high-color pedal in front of it, it'll sound awesome. She uses various combinations of Sansamp RBI and Eden's preamp/DI pedal.

Speaking of Nashville P@ssy, my old punk band used to share the stage with Blaine's band Nine Pound Hammer every time they'd come through. The original drummer (Adam) from Nashville P. has a killer metal band called The Hookers. He was like my big brother when I was growing up. Good dudes & Good Times!
Yeah super stoked to play with a band I started from the ground up doing tunes I like. I will try to get some video or something so people can here what we sound like. Can't wait!
