stoner/doom bassist thread part 2: suspicious smoke

Can't believe I didn't find this thread till now. After reading the first few pages, I feel like I just came home after being at a party with a bunch of strangers... still fun, but not really the most comfortable situation either.

My band is not doom by any means, but more in the vein of stoner jam rock, with a bit of psychadelic, a bit of heavy, and an almost overwhelming appreciation for Rush. Everyone in the band has a fairly different musical background, which makes for slow song writing, but an interesting final product. Haven't played any shows with this band yet, but we're picking up steam and I hope to do a gig or two in the fall.

We're getting together tomorrow, I'll snap a few pics of my rig and share them with you guys.

Yeah, it was before that album & before they went off w/ Metallica for a while. I also dislike Warp Riders & tried to give it another go a couple weeks back and got about 3 songs in and had to change it to something different.

I agree. I identify more with the stoner/doom thread than the whole of talkbass.

I made this thread a while back which helped solidify my distaste for the talkbass hive-mind.

And that same week as Clutch i seen Kylesa, High On Fire, And Torche same local club it was awesome.

Saw these three on the same night on last year's High on Fire tour. It was a phenomenal show. I saw Kylesa as a headlinder a month ago, and then this past Sunday I got to see Torche, Big Business, and Helms Alee. Again, just an excellent show.

I had no idea the dude that makes the Verellen amps was in Helms Alee. I was able to get a good look at the Meatsmoke, and the tone.. wow. I love my ampeg to death, but if I was in need of a new amp I think the Verellen would be at the top of my list.

It's definitely a place to hear about the flavor of the week. The only thing I always push is Peavey gear. Loud, cheap, and mostly user friendly. My rig is the polar opposite of what most people are on here praising.

We played a house party last month. I got to turn my amp up a little past half way :) There was a little crappy pa for vocals. I do some backup. But there was way to much feedback with two mics going. I told them just take mine out and focus on the singer, I'll go without. I was a little hoarse after the show.
We watched the next band, that pa was worthless. mumble mumble mumble.
I'm not into the Sword. But, Dead Meadow rules!

Check out the dude from Central Electronics in Capitol Heights. He worked on my SVT-CL before. Super fast turn around. I always forget his name but Geoff knows the guy. I thought the prices were fair. He's an old Asian dude who hates small talk. He's all business. I don't know if that helps but I assume it makes him better at this stuff.
