stoner/doom bassist thread part 2: suspicious smoke

Actually hearing Shogun Named Marcus got me hooked, and loved Transnational Speedway. It's not really their style now, but I still jam out to all their records/tunes. Plus, I enjoy supporting locals from my hometown(G-town!).
is clutch considered 'stoner' rock? I always thought they were simply the american psycho band, in a league of their own...

I never really got into Clutch. I've heard some songs here and there. Any suggestions on a starting point? 1st album onward I guess?

Depends, for non-musicians I recommend Blast Tyrant as a starting point. For a musician I would say Jam Room or Elephant Riders, if you don't like those, chances are you won't get Clutch.
Edit: I just thought of the Live in Flint album. Double CD with a good mix of various clutch albums. Their version of Coltrane's Equinox is worth it alone.
The Self Titled is the way to start imo! Very accessible yet very groovy and it's got some heaviness. Speaking of the self titled, here is a gem I found on youtube a couple years ago.

I like Dozer, I've heard a few of their albums. It's actually one of my nicknames too... ha

I've always been lukewarm on Clutch. I don't dislike them - and there are a bunch of songs that I really really dig - but overall I'm ambivalent I guess.
I've been listening to a bunch of Red Fang and the Truckfighters lately actually. That's some fun stuff right there.

Transnational Speedway League is, I think, heavier, darker, and more punk than their proceeding albums. If that doesn't really float your boat, I'd agree with trying Blast Tyrant, Pure Rock Fury, and Elephant Riders.

I love Clutch too much to make a proper recommendation but here is it goes:
Blast tyrant will be the most accessible.
Elephant riders is my absolute favorite.
Pitchfork has some cools b-sides but as an EP it is a little dated. Their style has changed 10x since that came out.
Mix the rest in as desired.

Clutch's diversity is borderline ridiculous. There's old raw heavy stuff like Juggernaut, one riff epic songs like Big News I, goofy songs like Gnome Enthusiast, amazing acoustic ballads like Ghost, hip hop songs like Careful with that Mic, etc. I really don't know how they do it but dammit they are awesome.
I listened to the s/t album this morning so far. It sounds like Violent J from ICP singing over a southern rock/stoner band haha. That doesn't mean it's bad or anything. I just keep picturing voilent j, running around.
I'll be checking out Elephant Riders later. I gotta see if I can get past my new obsession, Grateful Dead.

Listening to samples of The Elephant Riders (at work so amazon is it...). Reminds me a little of CKY stuff (or CKY reminds me a little of Clutch).
Not a big fan of Clutch... Saw them play w/ The Sword in Co Springs a few years ago & within two songs there were a couple handfuls of guys thrown out for fighting & was just an all around d-bag scene. The Sword killed it though & so did Graveyard.
