Hmm I am considering one of those squier 70's tele bass guitars with the fender style bucker.

I have a bronco and longhorn, with rounds and they get me that brighter, cutting tone.

I am thinking the fender strung BEAD would be great with fuzz, it wouldn't be a articulate tone, but a kind of a wall of sound all on it's on thing.

I think an EB-0 would work, but would probably be difficult to achieve even D standard.

I'm the same way with them. Though I was doing research on EGC and their bassist has a sweet one.

I believe that's under a week on pt 20.. congratulations I feel much of it had to do with the long awaited arrival of Laz' gear.

I think pickup placement is a big thing too. If it's more towards the bridge it isn't bad. Right up against the fret board, especially in short scale basses would be...bad... unless you were playing with a REALLY hi-fi head, or maybe some super bright strings.

I really like them for my punk band, though, which is normal tuning. I used a EB3 Copy for a while.

I think they're talented and skilled, I would never put them down as musicians or a band. The whole thing put together just doesn't click for me.

That transparent green + black color scheme is cool. Another one of my favorite combos, that I like to build on Warmoth or Carvin when I get bored. Trip Wamsley has a Jazz bass with that sort of look to it, on some of the pedal demo videos he did for Tonefactor. I always end up rewinding and pausing to check it out.

I would give one of those Eclipse preamps a shot. More people need to make pedals based on 70s Sunn solid state heads in this type of price/form factor (not like that preamp which shall not be named), I've had lots of them and they always sound great. The power amps just always blow up on me. My Beta Bass is the only one that hasn't exploded. Though honestly I prefer the high gain stuff on guitar more than bass most of the time.

I agree, the rusty box is another 70's SS style preamp is it not? There needs to be more of them. An acoustic modeled preamp would be awesome.

I've said it before, I'll say it again...I think I like transistor break up better more than tube break up.:hiding:

Yeah, the Rusty Box is based off a Traynor amp. There's an Acoustic 360 based preamp. I also like the sound of a pushed FET based preamp. I like light tube overdrive, but full on tube distortion sounds pretty mushy to me. I'd rather get high gain distortion from a solid state preamp or a pedal. That's why I've never gotten into the Meatsmoke and other similar amps that try to do high gain tube tone for bass. My buddy has a Sunn Sorado head (I think, could be something else) and it sounds pretty gnarly turned all the way up. Much less headroom than my Traynor, but it starts to sound squishy and farty to me once it gets warmed up.
