Stonerguys! Your eq and gear?

When I'm jamming out (not that I've called it stoner rock before) I like to have as few knobs to turn as possible. Passive bass into a tube amp. Its nice to have an amp that will give good usable sound with without fiddling.I often forget to turn the knobs and just compensate with the way I play the bass. I love my Traynor YBA1 but when I want to play louder I have a Sunn 300T. I have spaced out and left bass boost on and hit the footswitch and well it was a buzzkill.
Peace
Benton

Thanks man!!! Feel free to write something in our guestbook at Link Removed
My fellow band-mates would love to hear some reviews :)
Please state which country you're from :)

Been playing in a stoner metal band now for about 4 years. I use an Ampeg V4, reverb off and locked down, gain cranked to 3/4 and pre amp set at -6db, my midrange selected to 2500-3000 and mids dial turn all the way up then backed off a hair. Treble set at 3 o'clock and bass set at high noon. I play through a mid 70's 810 and use a Supercollider as a push on a few songs in certain parts. I use a Fender standard Jazz with Fralin pups. The sound is big, the Fralins add nice lows under all the cutting mids I push. I love this set up. Stoner rock begs for that 70's tube driven sound with as many 10's you want to carry around with you. I've pushed two 810's and it melted the face off my guitarist. He plays a vintage SG and Les Paul Studio through a Mesa Triple Rectifier. We're a trio and the combo of our two rigs is just classic. No effects really, just pushing tubes.

I'm in a band called ROMERO. (romero is loud dot com)

Lately, I've been using an Ashdown ABM500EVOII into a SWR 2x15 with kappalites. Mostly a Keeley RAT for dirt, EQD Hoof for fuzz, all through a boss line selector for clean blending.

My default bass is a USA Peavey Foundation 5....but I tend to take whatever feels good to me that week. Anything that tunes to C standard alright and doesn't have an overly floppy low C is okay with me.
I don't care about image or street cred. I just play whatever feels and sounds good....have it be a classic P or a Wick or the Kawai FIIB I have.

Now I'm planning to use a rack system......Yamaha PB-1 into a Crown XTi2000....through a SWR 6x10. Ashdown and 2x15 to be the backup rig.

I really dig the tube tone, but I have yet to find one that I dig it live.
(note: I haven't played through a SVT yet either :hiding:)

Overall, I think you just need to find what works for you....don't worry about what's hip in the stoner rock gear world.

There can be some gear elitism amongst any genre of music.:rollno:

Fu Manchu is my favorite - others are Kyuss and truckfighters
:eyebrow:

Truckfighters kill it. Mania is an epic album. They're a trio now and I think they sound even heavier. I noticed that with my band as well, when one of my guitarist moved to NJ. We just continued as a trio. People who had heard us as a four were blown away by the re-orchestrated trio. The negative space just makes the big parts bludgeoning...

On second though, I think you should do the following:

-get a Jetglo Ric, Gibson RD or vintage Fender P.
-buy a Meatsmoke with Emperor cabs
-grow your hair out.....70s style long
-buy a jean vest

beard optional.....

Easy as that. Instant stoner rock mojo.

Let's see...
Gibson RD... Check!
Emperor cab... Check!
Substitute Ampeg SVT 2PRO for Meatsmoke until I win the lotto...
Beard... Uhhh, as close as it's going to get!

Long hair is out if the question since I'm missing a large patch already, but more denim could be just what my band is lacking... We're more in the plaid camp.

I'm in a band called Earthride. Been playing the stoner/fuzz/doom type of rawk for years... I don't even listen to the radio anymore, and if I do, it's classic rock.

For me, a Rick 4001 into an early 70's SVT and 8x10 (two 8x10's for the big joints) cranked up just short of the point of explosion seems to work pretty good. P-basses and Jazzes will do it too, but I like like muh Rick!

You guys are Awesome!! Love it man!!

My denim jacket is lined on the inside with plaid flannel.
