I just put a set of Chromes on a Jazz bass I got about a month or two ago. When I tuned it and started to noodle around a bit, I noticed the A string sounded slightly different. It's hard to describe, but it almost sounded like there were more overtones or something. I was wondering if anyone might know what's causing this, and how it may be fixed?

Strange A string?

I had the same issue with a set of DR flats that I had purchased ... DR sent me a new one, but I gave the old one a couple weeks and they all came in nicely ... I also like to pull up easy on the strings a few times then retune to help them stretch in ...
... also, make sure apply a little pressure at the break point over the saddles, as the strings tend to not sit firmly there and it can create intonation issues
.... are the strings new or used? how is your downward angle from the nut to the tuning post on the A string? as it can cause a strange vibration if there is not enough pressure on the nut and may sound different, make sure the A string is at the bottom of the tuning post
