Strange almost chorus-like effect

Hmm, I tend to take my time applying a new set of strings. I don't force it to wrap around the post, I let it happen of its own accord as I tighten the tuning key. The really strange factor here is that the E and A strings were identically goofed up in both sets. Faint "chorus" played open, barely noticeable, but as you ascend it gets more and more apparent until the tone is completely compromised. Its certainly possible that I put these strings on wrong both times, but it doesn't seem likely that I would duplicate the problem exactly.
