Strange amp problem

I experienced a problem with one of my amps earlier. I was wondering, Is it possible for a cab to cause an amp to stop working?

I bought a used 210, and as soon as I plugged my amp in it sounded distorted. I turned it off and hooked it back up to my normal cab, and, nothing. The amp turns on but won’t make a sound now. It worked flawlessly before plugging it into the new cab.

Could the cab have screwed something up? Or is this just a weird coincidence? I’ll take it to my tech asap but was curious if I need to be mad at guitar center or not.

I’m too afraid to plug another head in to test the 210. I’m running it by guitar center and letting them test it in the morning (I will disclose my concerns)

Just for a quick test :

Take a small 9V battery , and press the jack of the speaker cable ( tip and shaft ) against both poles.
See if both speaker cones are moving inwards/outwards.
( so if that happens , your speakers are probably oke )

I got the word back from my tech. Someone tried to repair this cab and did a number on it. A bracket that holds the tweeter onto the horn snapped, so they tried to duct tape it. Of course it broke again and was laying on the crossover which crossed a short.

they also wired the speakers improperly (red to black and black to red). No diagnosis on my amp yet, but the cab just needs a little epoxy and to he put back together correctly.

It’s a nice cab, so I’m glad it’s alright but I’m far more worried about my main amp. That would be a heavy blow if it went down.

This is why I often encourage a qualified, professional repair rather than a DIY attempt. Hope your amp is ok

I did not. I bought it from guitar center’s used website. I was told it worked perfectly. If it has cause damage to my favorite amp I’m going to be a bit annoyed with them.
Well they ought to make good on the cab repairs. Be nice if they fixed your amp too, but I doubt they'll do that.
Hope you reported the problem to GC. If so, is it their tech looking at your cab, or did you take it somewhere else?
