Strange cut out problem.

I forgot to call Peavey on Friday and get a better idea on what the issue might be, so I'm going to ask around in here.

This cut out problem is very specific. It only happens when I'm either popping strings (only popping, and really only the D,G string specifically, and when I tap the headstock a few times. The headstock thing never ever fails.

And now it sort of does this weird fuzzy thing when it cuts back in.

9.5/10 times I have to unplug the bass and plug it back in to get her jammin again.

I can thumb, and fingerstyle the thing into the dirt, but if I wanna pop something I gotta pay the price.

And I assume just tapping the headstock and getting a complete cut out would narrow it down.

And to reiterate, (SP) it's a complete cut out. Not just like a scratchy cut out. It's a complete and total cut out of everything, and usually requires the cable to be unplugged/plugged back in.

So what do you think. (and it's not the input jack. that was the first thing I checked.)

Are you playing an active bass into the passive input? Frequently if your bass overdrives the preamp of your amp to clipping it can cause the protective circuits of the amp to cut off. If it is just the bass cutting out and not the amp then you probably have a loose connection that the vibration of your bass shakes loose, but the position of the wire end lets it fall back on the terminal and complete the circuit again.

My GUESS is a fault in the pickup wiring, & that's just from the Pop portion causing it while Slap is fine. Another culprit might be spread contacts on the battery jack.

2 pickups? Active?

I'd open the control cavity & play the thing one handed at very low volume. While doing that take a small non-conductive stick & lightly poke & tap at things in the control cavity. This can frequently point out exactly where a flaky connection is.

And you did spell "reiterate" properly. However, basses have output jacks ;)

Cirrus 5, 2 PU's, active yes.

And the funny thing about it being an output jack is the fact that I hear everyone call it an input jack (even at the guitar shop I frequent) and for some reason I have this inner dialogue where I'm like (But signal is sent out from the jack not into the jack) and I still call it an input.

Go figure.

as of right now I'm playing it into a tascam bass trainer, and haven't had a change to plug it into anything else.

And I'm more aggressive with it fingerstyle, than slap anyway, so I doubt it's a loose wire being jostled.

Doesn't tapping the headstock like on the back and in the center 2 or 3 times in increasing pressure send up any red flags? Because that isn't causing a whole lot of sound, and it does it muted as well. But I can knock on the body a bit and it doesn't cut out.

This is so weird.

PS: And as far as playing with the cavity open while molesting the insides, it's not very practical for me, considering with the cirrus, the preamp is covering all the wires, and like bolted in place or something.

Good Gravy, So upon further investigation, it will cut out (and it's a sharp cutout too, No preamble or anything. It's just on and then it's not, no fuzzy scratchy jangly hullaballo beforehand.) on either Pickup blended or otherwise, it isn't picky.

But now I tried to tap down the neck from the 24th fret (on the backside) down to the nut, and no cutout, then I just barely tapped the headstock and it cut out.

And it will not come back on until I unplug, and replug it. Period.
