I have an odd custom fretless bass that I picked up in a gear exchange. After some reading, and deciding that I like the mid-push sound, I picked up a set of DR Sunbeams. Got it set up for D standard for my project, and have an EQ that I can manage, however 7 and 5th fret on the C string are causing strange harmonics when hammered on. Plucking the note creates a stable sound, but some resonance is very evident when I do hammer-ons or when I slide into the note.
I did get my local guitar guy (reliable, well priced, just have to listen to his stories), to set it up. He mentioned that there may be some string buzz due to the D standard not totally agreeing with my bass, and mentioned some harmonic effects that might result. I used the DRs 40-105, which were slightly heavier than the strings I had on previously. If I wanted to fix this, keeping the mid-push sound, what other strings should I look at? Is a heavier gauge key?
