Strange MM4 CIJ late model serial #'s?

My son and I are looking at two Marcus Miller 4 string basses with a serial starting in "B" +0+5digits. I know the Made in Japans from '85-'86 had the "B" prefix but this doesn't cover the crafted in Japan. Any body out there have a CIJ Marcus Miller 4 more recent than 2005 (as far as Fenders chart for CIJ goes) with a "B" prefix. Need to know what year this animal was born. Do you MM4 buffs think this bass needs the pre amp wiring mods discussed on this forum.
