Bought one used to replace my Evah G. Absolutely love it. But there's one thing that I have never experienced. The first few days I had to keep tuning up because the pitch dropped. This is expected. Now, for the last week or so, when I pick up the bass for my daily practice session it's sharp by quite a bit. The other 3 strings are still in tune. Is this normal?

Double Bass Strange Olive G?

Evahs have have a synthetic core, olivs a gut core. Gut is very sensitive to shifts in humidity, especially when new. The Olivs I have on my bass (D and G) are over a year old at this point and still will go sharp or flat depending on how dry or humid it is.
have had Oliv D and G on my bass for 2 years and they still are sharp or flat when picking up bass. But they still sound great.
I'm glad to hear you guys are getting such long life from this string. I've wanted to try it for years but they're so expensive and I've heard bad things about the lifespan. Of course now that I have virtually no income I figured this was the perfect time to take the plunge. Wonderful sounding and feeling string.

Well, it's going to be different for everyone. I've had sets of Animas on the German bass for up to 5 years plus with no problems, other folks had them breaking after a couple of weeks.

I got home a few nights ago and found my Oliv G was broken somewhere in the pegbox. It had been on my bass for almost 4 years (Dic. 2016-Oct 2020); I took it off twice for less than a month total. Daily practice, lots of gigs (many outdoor gigs in the summers). Sounded great till the day it died.
My bass has a new Oliv G again: worth the cost.
Regarding that behavior, it has happened to me too along these years but that's the nature of the sweetest G string around.
