Strange problem with DR neons?

Ok, I've just strung up my Jazz after a rebuild, but the thick, tapered part of the E string is really close to the winding post.

Should I be worried about this?

I've run into that kind of thing with other strings. AFAIK it's not a problem, other than taking care to keep the string wrap tidy as you bring it up to pitch. Gotta keep the break-over at the nut right.

BTW, anybody make coated strings in Realtree camo? (It's a redneck thang, y'all...)

Strings stretch dude, I fitted them today, so I'm guessing they would slacken up a turn or two over the life of the strings...

I've had the full diameter of the string run up on the post (say) a quarter turn, with no ill effects.

Suggestion: go easy on the string as you bring it up to pitch. And guide it with your finger as it wraps around the post.

My Sun Beams are doing the same thing. Bothers me to look at, but I think you should be ok. I've had my strings on for over a month without a problem.

Havent had a problem with my neons and the outer wrap being close to post or starting to turn on it. Had them on three basses since started them. I did go ahead and try string thru body this last string change just for trying it. The outer wrap barely clears the nut on tuning peg side with thru body stringing on 35 scale bass. But no problem.

Dude Don't let them get to you. I wouldn't use pink strings but good pick with the DR's and if pink is what you want go for it man...... As for the string, you should be fine like everyone is saying unless you tune higher then open E then it might break but I really doubt it.

If you want you can use those "offsets" that keep computer motherboards floating above the computer case. Basically un-string the bass, run the erring string through the offset then through the Jazz backplate. The ball end of the string would therefore be held back something like ten centimeters away from the backplate.

I doubt they will stretch that much.

OP - Only thing you need to do is make sure the string goes straight from the tuner towards the nut, so there is no "curve." If there is, you will need to push the string toward the tuner so it is at more of a straight angle (similar to what you need to do over the bridge). EWO basically said the same thing...

and EWO - You can get a set of Black Beauties and Cool Blues and make a Black & Blue mix of strings
