Strap Locks with a Mono strap?

Hi all,

I wasn't sure where to post a strap question exactly, but I hope it gets noticed here.

I just purchased a MONO strap, and I'm having trouble getting the Schaller locks into the leather holes. I didn't want to bore them out too much without asking if there is a trick to this, or if I just start working the leather a bit. Adversely, the strap seems to work fine in the old-school way of just strapping it on the posts on the bass. I prefer strap locks whenever possible. Thoughts?

I just bought a Mono strap. I use Dunlops but also had trouble getting them on. I had read in reviews this was an issue. I just bored mine out a bit, worked the leather, and got them on. It only took a few minutes.

Which effects have you fitted straplocks to? I tend to just velcro them to a board but this sounds interesting!

A wiseguy - I like it! I like to lock them in to my pant legs, sort of like Fleas old stuffed-animal pants! No BigMuffs though, tends to leave a bruise.

btw you can always make the hole bigger, one question how are you liking the MONO straps I have a gigbag and its awesome and was planning to buy a strap aswell

Off-topic, but my friend is a big Chili Peppers fan and made some pants just like that. He had a shark tale coming out of his ass. It was pretty cool.

Chill out? Yeah, I said it in jest, and I also said I didn't know where to post a strap question from the start. FWIW, I love the strap. I'm sure there are others (like comfort strapp) that are as good or better, but this one has the look I love, and it feels great on my bum shoulder.

Also, I ordered the wrong size at first, emailed MONO, told them I was sending it back, and they sent me the right size, same day. No hassles, no problems. Grade A on the customer service all the way.

You should try the Marvell Straplocks. Use them on all my thick leather straps. Much easier to get on and just as durable as the Dunlop straplocks.

Very decent IMHO. I would get one, but the local dealer only had the longer ones available when I checked. That, and I have a 10.5 cm (4+ inches) padded leather strap already...

Did the same, just do a little at at time to make sure you don't go too big. I've had to do this with lots of staps b/c I tend to buy big/thick leather straps due to an old neck injury.

FYI, it is quite a nice strap. I bought it for my US Spector which is a touch heavier than I'd prefer.

Don't worry about it. Since the hole in the strap fits snugly around the post, just put it on without strap locks. Then go the the hardware store and buy two of these rubber washers (about .40 cents each). Put them over the strap button outside of the strap and that strap will not work itself loose.

Just make sure you get the rubber washers with a SMALL hole in the center. It will stretch out enough to get over the button, but it will fit real snug and safeguard your baby. Like this:
