Strap no strap?

Also purely a question of looks, all my basses are on stands in my office and it looks like crap to have straps hanging from them

I respectfully disagree:

Strap in when playing, and off any other time.

In the 7 years I've been back playing bass, I've owned almost 100 different basses, but I've only had one strap.

One strap? I couldn't imagine having only one strap.
I have more straps then basses. I guess I am as bad as some woman with shoes or purses. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

One thing I always do when I go to music stores (not GC) to try out basses is to buy something before I leave and a lot of times it is a strap if they have something I like.

Find what you like and stick with it. Wish I could do the same with basses.....

my very first gig, before I even hit the first chord , I reach my hands up to move my hair out from under my strap and the strap let go and...smash....the neck broke in half. ever since then, I've used strap locks religiously. I will not even think about buying a guitar without putting strap locks on it .
I had to do my last show without strap locks on my Corvette...and I spent the entire time waiting for it to fall. Lol.

Straploks are fine and dandy, until the strap button & post completely fall out of your basses body.

Seems there have been plenty of valid reasons posted as to why one might take their strap off. Myself, I just buy a new strap whenever I get a new bass, and then leave it on.

That's what I do. I'm not interested in moving straps from instrument to instrument. When I'm seated, I leave them on - they're not in the way and they increase safety for the instrument.

Yes, people have mentioned excuses, but as far as I'm concerned, not a single valid reason for removing a strap. Basses fit in cases even with the strap on, and worrying about how they look on a stand or on a wall hangar isn't a valid objection IMO.

Mine do not fit in the case with a thick leather strap installed. Do I really have to buy a new $50 strap for every bass I buy, just to "increase safety?" No, of course not. The same strap moves easily from one instrument to another.

There is no valid or invalid here. Merely opinion.
