Strap no strap?

About strap locks, I've never really found any need for them. My current bass, that I bought used, came with Schaller strap lock buttons on the bass, but I just put my strap directly onto the bass, since I've never needed strap locks and it seems pointless to go and buy some that I don't need. Do you guys really have a problem with the strap falling off the guitar?

IME, straps are more likely to come off when they've been attached and removed from the bass/s a lot. The leather gets really soft and will slip over the buttons after a while.

I put rubber gaskets on the buttons to hold the strap ends on them and a pair only costs $2.00.

Maybe I'm just lucky, The strap that I was using until recently is just a nylon weave one from a LONG time ago. Like, from the 70s. and I've had no issues with it. I suppose I could just grab straplocks if my Comfort Strapp ever decides to poop out on me.

Feel free to reread my post.

A strap, for an upright? In the Bass guitar section of TB?

Really?

:D

I was wondering how long that would take......

Lee Rocker thinks it's a great idea:

One of my straps is not that great, so sometimes my bass slips off. It's painful when a bass drops on your foot :(

My other straps are fine and the bass happily stays on, so I haven't needed strap locks yet.

Also, I leave the bathroom door open when not in use, with the lid up.

No. But the day you find out you have a problem it can be an expensive finding.

I always use some kind of straplock. I used Schallers for years. Lately it's more a rubber washer... especially effective on the wide buttons of a Stingray.

They're not exactly expensive - and they're a lot less expensive than any damage that would occur when (not if) your bass does come in rapid contact with mother earth.

I always leave the strap attached but I don't bother using it when I'm sitting down, it's too long and just end up getting tangled in my headphones cable or caught on something, it just gets tucked behind the bass so it's out of the way.
