Strap On This... Bass Height

A little higher than middle for me. I used to practice while sitting on a stool (hell, I used to practice!) and I set the strap so that it would still be hanging on the strap while I was on a stool so that practicing was the same as playing standing up at a show. That's what I got used to so I stuck with it. It's pretty much right in line with my gut.

Depends on the bass but, usually, right under my moob.

Yeah! That's about right!

Whatever you consider this.

I'm pushing 30 years of playing and it rides a little higher now than it did when I was younger, but not by much.

Also, this is a 78 Precision... my other bass is an Ibanez BTB and with the extra inch of scale length on that one I find I prefer to wear it even a bit higher than the P.

low n' sexy :D

Actualy, it depends on what i'm playing. On heavier/punk stuff my headstock is paralell with the ground and belt height, if not a tad lower. On more mathy things it's more middle of the road... like set at the same height it is when i'm sitting down, bottom horn belt height.

I used to go for maximum strap length, because it felt comfortable for my fretting hand since I have pretty long arms. However, based on TB comments, I've recently switched so it's the same height as when I'm sitting down. It's much better since I can practice either way, and it feels much better on the fretting hand, which really needs the comfort more anyway.

I'd say mid-low, pretty much so the back contour on a Fender sits right on my belt line.

First time I picked up a bass I slung it on, dropped it to that level and have left it there ever since, never really though much about it.

Guess its because I have long arms. Also, if someone were to try and shoot me in the goolies they would hit a slab on nigh indistructable P bass, so its a good self defence mechanism.

What is your preferred bass height - Do you ride 'em high, jazzy style, do you swing low (sweet chariot), or are you a middle-of-the-roader? And why.

I'm a middle-of-the-road guy. Just feels most comfortable. Plus, I have stubby little fingers, so I couldn't swing low if I wanted to.

The standing position 'on the strap' of my bass is absolutely identical to the bass in sitting position. Personal choice, of course, but the logic of having a bass in a constant position regardless of sitting and standing is pretty strong:D

Like this. Took some experimenting with strap length.
Starting point - ridiculously high, and then listening carefully to what my hands and arms were telling me.
- left: not too high
- right: not too much of a "broken wrist"
- comfortable access to frets beyond 12
