Stratchy strings issue.

So, i just picked up new strings for my Squire P-bass. I installed them correctly but since I put them in I hear a metallic scraping sound when I play. I've gone over everything and am having a hard time finding the issue, has anyone else had this issue too?

Is it the strings buzzing against the fretboard?

Yes they buzz after every pluck and it just sounds aweful. I play everyday and it annoys me so to hear it buzz like it does. It never use to do that with the original strings so I am thinking I might have restrung it incorrectly.

normal. Adjust your eq settings and wait till the strings break in . All roundwounds squeek and scratch o some degree

Im not sure what was on there originally but I bought Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Bass 50, 70, 85 and 105.

Hard to install those incorrectly...

It is possible the strings are not clearing the pickups or the frets somewhere...

but it could also be the sound of bright new fresh strings.

The strings might be a lower tension than the old ones. You probably need to adjust the action and/or truss rod slightly.

Hows the relief and action with the new strings? Maybe needs adjusting for lighter tension strings.

Your old strings were probably higher tension, so the combination of low tension, roundwound, and newness is giving you the buzz and clank. A few things you can do: give it a few weeks and let the strings break in, adjust the string height to be a bit higher and/or adjust your truss rod so that your neck is straight, turn down your treble a bit and roll off your bridge pickup. If after a while you still don't like it, get higher gauge nickel strings or better yet, try flats. I personally can't stand buzz, clank, and tinniness (is that even a word?). So i switched to flatwound many moons ago and never looked back.
