Double Bass String Buzz

So my bass has some pretty noticeable string buzz. It's really bad close to the nut, but I can hear it all over the fingerboard. (I play jazz so I play pizzicato) I've tried raising the bridge, but that hasn't done much. Any ideas?

Hi Gr,

How long has it been this way? It sounds like your bass hasn't been properly set up. The fingerboard needs to be dressed (i.e., planed along it's length so that it has a broad concave contour, with relief in the centre) so that you don't get buzzing. If if the contour's uneven, you'll have buzzing.

A luthier can tell you if that's the difficulty, and put it right. You'll have much more fun playing a bass that's properly set up.

Cheers,

Paul (Eh_train)
