String choice for Lakland 44-60 jazz bass

Question:

They are somewhat sticky. Will that go away? I wonder if that contributed to the sore fingertips. Not a big deal as I am sure this will go away eventually.

I will use them at tomorrow's rehearsal in part band setting. Hoping to still really like them then. I read they sit really well in the mix.

The sore fingers thing is odd. Are you talking fretting hand or plucking hand? The TIs are so light that they necessitate a change in technique for some players, including myself. Especially if coming from hex core flats, which can be quite stiff, the TIs can take some getting used to. I have found a more or less feather-light touch to be best with them. Is it possible that you were plucking them harder than necessary out of habit of playing stiffer strings? I wish I had a better idea of what might be going on. Hope your fingertips are feeling better by now!

That might be it! It was a fretting hand and I was pressing them probably too hard.

My DR PureBlues set died quickly Less then a month? Is that normal for every other day playing?

I ghad liked DR Sunbeams I had before, but thought they were too mellow. I need a little bit of more kick to it but no zingyness. I was thinking of trying D'Addario NYXLs 45-105 on this bass. Any feedback on this pair? I used them before on the Fender Jazz I had and I liked them. Not sure what to expect from this Lakland?

I’ve used DR Pure Blues on my basses for a while and typically get at least 6 months of playing from a set. The set on my G&L L-2500 Tribute was on for 12 months before I felt it was time to change strings. Your less than one month experience seems out of the ordinary to me.

When I had a Squier P 5 string I installed a set of D’Addario NYXL’s and hated the tone… initially. (I really like NYXL’s on my 6 string electric guitars). I disliked the tone so much that bass stayed in its’ case unused for a while. One day I pulled it out and the tone was magic! It was so good I couldn’t understand my prior opinion. I believe the NYXL’s may be a good choice.
