I started playing my '60s Kay again recently (have been playing my 1800s Czech).

The Kay had old old Thomastiks on it and it seemed due for a change.

I bought a set of LaBella White Tapewounds to try out. They've been good for a few months, but I decided to start playing some of our band tunes arco, so off came the LaBellas. They've been decent pitz strings, though a bit on the fat side.

I moved onto Velvet a Animas, which is what I've had on the Czech for years. They already feel much better than the tapes. Easier on the fingers. I'd been noticing my forearms getting really sore after back to back gigs. I think the extra thickness and tension on the LaBellas are partially to blame. We'll see!

I got a little interested when I saw those new white tapes advertised. I need something kinda dark and loud, but still with some growl. I sold my big ply bass and need to get the smaller hybrid up in volume ;)

Which Tomastik's were on there, and how did those Labellas compare?
