Just added some drop D songs to our set list and I am interested in opinions on string gauge. I've always used .45-.100 and love them but would it be better to go with a .105 set? I suppose I need to just try it and see what I like. Anyone else useing .100 for drop D?

String gauge question

Drop D tuning is something new I'm venturing into myself. So, I've decided to switch to D'Addario EXL170BT (45-60-80-107) to see how they might work. I personally wouldn't go lower than 105 for that purpose.
My E-string is a .090 which is the equivalent of a .100 tuned to D.
I find the problem to be is the difference in tension from one string to the next when you take the loosest string and tune it down a step. I down tune my 2 lowest string often, so when choosing strings I make my set out of single, so my lowest strings are the tightest.
