Double Bass String gauges

@martinc: If you use a Mac with OS X, simple print the File from the browser into a PDF. If you use a Windows-PC there is a free version of PDF-XChange Lite 2012 available, so you can print into a PDF with Windows.

BTW, there might be a few values (tension in Kg) missing for the Presto light nylon tape, because the end has been cut.

Maybe you can put the file(s) on a cloud service and drop the link here. Some of us (including me) can then convert to PDF, put the file on a cloud service too and publish the link here again.
It would be nice if you have the 110 cm page too.

I still have the last page with the string tension calculation and the table of musical note frequencies. Not very helpful, but one more piece of the puzzle.

I copied this Excel-sourced chart from the original link a few years ago. Unfortunately I can't find a way to save it so I can convert it to a PDF file or send it anywhere. The only link is to my own files. A screen shot cuts off the right side of the data.
I won't have the time to copy and redo all the info for a few days. I will also have to re-format.
I also tried to shrink the page to print it but it is too large even for the maximum shrinkage (30 per cent) I can do on Windows 7.
I have also tried the Excel Lite program but I end up with the same problem as when I use my Adobe PDF converter. I can save a file link to the page from within my computer...but not the HTML page itself.

I summary: the source for the page is now gone. I have a copy of the document in my own Documents file. But the only http link that appears when I view the page is a link back to my own files on my hard drive. I can save that link but the link won't open within the converter so I can convert then to PDF files...or anything else.

When I recall that there was absolutely NO information regarding string gauges on line twenty years ago, I'm really proud of how much data we've been able to harvest and share via the double bass community.

This is solid info and needs to be preserved on line and on our own hard drives.

I entered the whole 105 cm stuff from baen.tama.edu into a table of a new word document (A4 landscape, 4 pages). I'm just waiting for the references and some original (kg) tensions for the Presto Light. I hope martinc either post that here or send me his saved file. When it's done I will upload the word file and a PDF to Dropbox and post a link here so anybody can download it.

Has anybody saved the second table with the 110 cm scale values?
 
I just PM'd doublemidi. There is no reference source on my copied Excel chart so I can't save it.....other than in my own hard drive. I can open the file from my hard drive but the only thing I can send is that link to my own file, which will not work on anyone else's computer.

For Presto Light:

Tension kg:
G - 21.5
D - 23.5
A - 25.5
E - 28.0

Diameter (inches):

I would think its Pirastro Original Flexocore. The Chromcor used to be called Wondertone.

You could post the data on the TalkBass Wiki pages, accessible from the navigation bar at the top of every page and home to the Beginners Guide, etc.

@SSS: What is the source of your gauge listing?

Edit: I found it myself. It's from the Bass Spa. Easier to identify the strings there.

There are some strings missing in some sets and sometimes it might be hard to say which strings are omitted. A question mark for a missing string might have helped.

* Yes, due to the thicker nature of plain gut strings, the D string is larger than the synthetic A string. This measurement isn't a mistake!

4/4 bass? Pirastro designs these 3/4 size bass strings to fit on a standard 3/4 size bass and most 4/4 basses. They may very well fit your bass if it is larger than 3/4.
