Double Bass string height/gut strings

i'm curious to hear opinions on string height

what is a good height for gut strings?

i'm currently using velvet garbo strings

my strings are currently a little over 12mm--this is a tolerable height

i play unamplified--usually with a drummer--and i've always heard that high string height can help you project your sound better, but i'm beginning to wonder if i can lower my strings just a bit to make it easier to play in the upper register

Generally, lower string height results in less volume. Often, good string height is a compromise between ease of playing and getting your sound. If you are fortunate, there is no compromise.

If you have bridge adjusters installed, you can experiment. This is more convienent and probably less expensive than going back and forth to the luthier.
