string help rickenbacker 4003... I always mess up with the A and E.

Yeah, those basses kind of suck and they always have problems with strings. So if you're thinking of selling it, I'll take that piece of crap off your hands for a couple hundred bucks. I use them to make lamps around my house.

I love my RIC's muting bridge. I use the mute all the time to get the sound of a pick and mute when playing fingerstyle.

Hey guys, I've been messing up alot putting strings on my 4003 and my nut popped out for the 2nd time in a row because of me... Hey I've been used to a steinberger for 3 years. Currently my ric is upstairs no nut, and 2 strings that are put on wrong, some of the string is going over the tuning peg... I honestly have no idea how but... anyone else hate putting strings on a ric? I'm seriously considersing selling it so I can get a Geddy bass. I'm starting to hate my ric because of my errors.

Can you post pics of how you are trying to string it? stringing a ric isn't really any different from stringing any other bass.

Selling it due to user error won't fix anything as you are likely to repeat those errors on other basses....

Try D'Addario strings ... the ball at the bridge is color coded so you can tell which string you have.

No pics from the OP. I'm guessing he was winding the E and A the wrong way on the pegs. Doing the E the wrong way could certainly shear the nut off the neck or break off the E slot due to too much lateral force.

Yes, post pics please. You will need much less "extra" string going around the post since it is quite a bit smaller than say a Fender..... I usually cut the excess string off after with I perceive to be two tuning pegs beyond the string I am replacing (if I am putting on an E string...I stretch the string to dhte D tuning peg and cut off the excess there). But that process seems to still leave a bit too much string around the post for a Ric. If this is not what you are talking about.... please disregard.

Just change one string at a time. Cut the new one to the exact same length as the one that came off. Nuts come off easy because only the tiniest bit of glue is used to hold them. This is so no damage is done to the neck when the nut is removed intentionally. Nobody is trying to be mean to you but if you can't do it yourself then take it to some one who can.

I must prefer restringing my hohner B2a, no cutting, it's the best to string I love it.

I have the Yamaha Bx-1, the 80's Yamaha copy of the Steinberger and it is the most difficult bass I have to restring. They did not go with the double ball end string idea unfortunately and it is a royal PITA to restring.

Once I wrapped the E string around my own neck and the wood in my head couldn't breathe.
