String ID

Hi,
Does anyone have any idea what kind of strings these are? No silks at either end.

Can you do something? Measure the length of the E string from the ball end to the taper at the tuner end (where the full winding ends). And do the same with the A. Looks to me like the winding on the E is shorter than the other three, suggesting they could be an older version of La Bella before they introduced the color-coded ball ends a few years ago. According to their specs, the E should be 37" while the other three are 38". Thanks.

37 1/4 for the E and 38 1/4 for the A.

I thought Labellas had silks??

La Bella RX series rounds do not have silk. Maybe that's what they are
Well, they are smoother than rounds and do not have much string noise when shifting positions ( no screeching) so I do not think they are rounds. I think they could be ground wound or pressure wound, but I'm not sure as I've never had those type of strings before.

Or could they be LaBella through body flats with the silks cut off? Or would there still be some silks left even if they were cut back? They are currently not strung through body as this bass has a regular Fender tailpiece with no through body ferrules.

The only pressurewound/semi-flat strings I can think of with no silk and gold ball ends is the SIT Silencers. But they would have all four strings the same in winding lengths. The measurements you provided still point to La Bella. They used to have what was called "Quarter Rounds" (as in groundwound), but as far as I know, they did come with silk at the tuner end.

They're definitely NOT La Bella thru-body flats. That much I know.

Yeah, it's baffling that there is no silk at either end, yet they appear to be either flats or ground/pressure wound.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Yeah maybe they are Labella quarter rounds. seems like a strong possibility.
The more I play them the more convinced they are not flats.
Could they be d'Addario half rounds?
Or GHS pressure wounds?
La Bella Quarter Rounds for sure now that we know they didn't have silk.

D'Addario Half Rounds would have color-coded ball ends, and GHS Pressurewounds would have black silk.
